WORLD CUP REINDEER RACE

Reindeer raceThe Sami are the first that started with the domestication of the reindeer and that they used reindeer to move and transport. It has been common when the Sami met from the various tribes that they were competing over who had the best run reindeer. In Finland, reindeer racing has been pretty much since they started their own cup in 1948 with a final race which they call "King Race" in Inari with the top 24 in Cup. Eventually in Norway, it is arranged reindeer racing competitions at Easter in Kautokeino and Karasjok, and for the last years there are arranged World Cup race with finals in Alta, Tromsø and Harstad in Norway.

The Norwegian Reindeer-race Federation promotes reindeer racing and lassoing the Sami traditions, cultural relations and friendship regardless of borders Sweden, Finland, Russia and Norway.

FINNMARKSLØPET - the world’s northernmost sled dog race.

FinnmasrkslpetFinnmarksløpet is the world's northernmost sled dog race. It was organized for the first time in 1981 by Alta Mushing Association. Finnmarksløpet hosts two classes: FL-500 (500 km) raced with up to eight dogs, and FL-1000 (1000 km) with a maximum of 14 dogs.

In 2008 Aktiv Media AS made an Outside Broadcast production of the race for NRK webTV and on a satellite-slot on Canal Digital. This was the first regular direct broadcast of the race and since then NRK has been producing live on tape programs for NRK1. 

For 2012 the race starts in Alta 10 march.
