Since the start in 1991 the festival has become the biggest in Norway with over 52000 visitors. Martha Otte talks about beeing the link between filmfestivals in Murmansk, Norilsk and Spitsbergen.

Films from the North is a project that draws attention to the increasing media activity in the north, and thereby stimulate its growth. Films are qualified as long as the subject, the production or the director, has a strong connection to the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia or Canada.  The goal is to be an essential meeting place for filmmakers, and the most important venue for films from the Northern periphery.
